brilliant piece & i couldn't agree more. i think i've already shared with you nader's 3/2025 piece on "the vast gaza death undercount" (below). what i've found hard to live with these past 20 months is the deep indifference toward palestinians of the vast majority of people i know, whose concerns mostly center around trump & the preservation of their own parochial privilege. it's not just that they're in a different info bubble & thus somehow unaware, because they see what i share; somehow the genocide just doesn't register. it's a blip on their information screen. i still don't know how to understand this.
Another great piece of writing! Eugenics and dehumanization are part of the U.S. DNA and explains a lot of why this massacre continues to go on. We are well trained to distance ourselves from “others” by undermining the “others” humanity. The imperialist powers built it this way. Nate, your warning should be heeded. I wrote about the atrocities in Gaza a couple of times, even though my subject is climate change and overshoot. No one who is human, imbued with empathy can turn their heads from this horror. However, the barbarity we see here is embodied by far more than the sick Zionists. It's embodied in the corporations turning the Earth into a toxic gas chamber. It's embodied in the ignorant who raise monsters to power.
The US is in danger of the same. People like you, me, and our readers could one day be herded down cattle chutes in hope of food, just as the Palestinians have been, and shot. How many dead already from USAID being dismantled? The wealthy and powerful see us as impediments. Death is their prescription to the problem. What we're seeing in L.A. is also a real litmus test of the future. The time to risk our lives is now, or we are surely dead.
