Dear Nate. brave you use the word rape for what it makes vassal states. As a Pakistani woman I do wonder what are client states waiting for when we all have the shining examples of moral coherence in resistance to economic warfare through generations of revolutionary leadership in Cuba and Iran

"And liberals who pretend not to get it, who pretend Trump is an outlier, who luxuriate in the myth of American benevolence and freedom and values, are the worst. From AOC, to Mamdani, to Sanders to Newsom, it is Democrats voting for sanctions, applying the de-legitimising “regime” descriptor and denouncing resistance to imperial aggression who prep the intellectual, rhetorical and material ground for imperialism. It is liberals who in their language of universal rights at home provide American brutality abroad with a sheen of benign, bookish justification."

And to top it all off, none of them made the faintest opposition to their party intiating a war with nuclear power Russia, nor did they make a peep while their party aided a live streamed genocide and began jailing, beating and de schooling the flower of the youth that dared to protest the genocide. Once again, the Democratic Party is Zio Imperialist and genocidal. Nobody over the age of 16 can legitimately have any other opinion as to this party. Otherwise, they are either fatally stupid or crypto Imperialist/genocidal.

Much to agree with ref: USA. In the case of Israel, Jew-Israel hates the arabs so it is setting Iran @ the throats of the arabs by bombing Iranian gas facilities (whilst tRump goes along - does he have a choice given the compromat held by Israel?). Iran responds by attacking arab industrial facilties. Israeli jews sit back & rub their hands (Israeli arabs are just trying to stay quiet/ stay alive). In the case of Europe, Germans are still in the "we are sorry for the holocaust" mode couple that to jew-penetration of EU institutions plus Orban (Hungary) & his boyfriend Net&yahoo, and meaningful action against Israel is impossible. Were it taken (e.g. severing of diplomatic relations/commercial relations/flights etc) , Israeli-jews would fold like the bullshitting bullies they are. The EU could force Israel to behave. But for a range of reasons (guilt coupled to "jews are mostly nice people" etc) don't. In some eyes I'm deeply anti-semitic (eh? but I like Lebanese people) and a fascist. Oddly, I don't approve of killing people (fascists do) & know that Jew-Israel could be brought into line & held there through non-violent measures.

"And liberals who pretend not to get it, who pretend Trump is an outlier, who luxuriate in the myth of American benevolence and freedom and values, are the worst."

Rational, informed people believe that yes, there is myth of benevolence etc. Often nauseating hypocrisy. But rational people also know that there are outliers from this myth in both directions. Lincoln & more relevantly, the most effective anti-imperialist, anti-colonialist of all time, FDR, were outliers in the positive direction - the USA really was a benevolent defender of freedom and democratic values yada, yada, yada in the FDR era,1933-1945, and everyone on the planet saw it.

Historians now agree what was obvious to ordinary or unbiased people then, 99% of the world - that FDR consciously orchestrated and designed the postwar decolonization he did not live to see.

Trump is an outlier in the negative, imperialist direction to the point of insanity. Not seeing Trump is an aberration, an outlier is just plain crazy. Crazy just the same way many leftists, socialists and communists did not see Hitler as an aberration, but a mere tool of the capitalists. Hitler killed many supposedly omnipotent puppetmasters or forced them to flee Germany. Leonard Woolf's 1939 Barbarians at the Gate has a chapter on this very "not an aberration" delusion - a widely held, comforting prewar delusion that nobody believed in by 1945.

"From AOC, to Mamdani, to Sanders to Newsom, it is Democrats voting for sanctions, applying the de-legitimising “regime” descriptor and denouncing resistance to imperial aggression who prep the intellectual, rhetorical and material ground for imperialism. None of them truly opposed the kidnapping of Maduro, the sanctions on Cuba or the war on Iran. "

Nonsense. Slander. Worst of all, idiocy. How on Earth does attacking people who oppose these things in the real world, by actions, rather than mouthing preferred slogans - help anybody? Rather, help anybody but imperialists!

"Liberals", neoliberals who peddle nauseating hypocrisy while violating these ideals at every turn are odious. Sure, attack the hardcore corporatist neoliberal Dems. But not the good ones!

"I’ve checked, and not one Democrat has spoken out against Trump for his Cuba comments, or blockade-starvation policies."

You didn't check very hard. Or apparently at all. Google Jim McGovern calling for the Cuban people to determine their own future, saying that this is a scheme for Trump to enrich himself. Tim Kaine, Ruben Gallego and Adam Schiff filed a war powers resolution against Trump on Cuba

AOC, Sanders & Mamdani have all denounced imperial aggression. That is what they clearly, really believe in and want. Not some paranoid spin on their vocabulary and politicking they engage in - in order to get others to vote with their anti-imperialism.

The situation is far too dire, too dangerous for this prissy, moralistic self-indulgent backbiting.

The IRGC is kept in power in Iran by America's CIA who deposed the Shah of Iran in 1979. Comments by a few who have read my 2018 book entitled The Shah of Iran Mohammad Reza Pahlavi: Victim of His Times ISBN 978-0-925798-3-4 are at https://arlenejohnson.livejournal.com I'm offering a special offer to people here in the UK which is £20.00 with free P&P My bank is TSB Sort code is 77-69-39 and Account number is 02136860 This is a top secret book that i wrote in 2018, because even though British people know that the CIA deposed the Shah, they don't know why that unconstitutional agency did. Moreover, the CIA has been and continues to keep the IRGC in power in Iran to this very day. But the government in Wahington D.C will not admit this. Opportunist Democrats are in the cheerleading section of the arena for Trumps War on Iran. They smell money and gate receipts in November.

Bombs Away, Dr. STRANGELOVE. Like Vietnam. This time, a Forever Quagmire!

A thought appended to this excellent article by Nate:

For every horrific American weapon loosed on Iran, the likelihood of that weapon being replaced is slim. America is going to burn out, both materially and stating the obvious, spiritually.

Another article strong on substance but scant on solutions.

Even if I could suddenly prompt my wild imagination to envision living in a legitimately functioning democracy that's no longer "imperial" (in a global economy) nor supportive of anti-democratic states, Mr. Bear has left me the odd notion that even "sanctions" (aka "boycotts" or "blockades") are the wrong tool to redress political grievances.

If not sanctions, what then are democratic nations expected to do with totalitarian states and the strongmen who subjugate them?

That's adorable, Wolfie. You think you live in a Democratic state!
