Those poor babies. What happens to that little boy now? Does he just die of dehydration on that roof because he’s too little to figure out how to get himself help?
I didn’t fully get the neoliberal immigration thing until I saw the lesser evil party screaming that we have to keep the undocumented immigrants because how else can we exploit people for cheap labor, gasp, will have to pay more for vegetables if we can’t exploit these people!
Then the Republicans in the state I live in try to pass a law that required employers to use e-verify, to confirm they are hiring people who are legally allowed to work for them, who are entitled to minimum wage and whatever minimal protections they have at work.
And the Dems crushed it, because if their business owner buddies can’t exploit people for cheap labor they won’t be able to enjoy these record profits they feel entitled to.
Instead of going after the businesses that employ undocumented people so they can get out of paying payroll taxes and reasonable wages our government punishes the people who are just trying to go to work. Even when the lesser evil is in charge.
Edited to add that I am American, I keep forgetting that we all have the same fascist problem, so my comment may be confusing for people in the UK because it’s similar but different here.
thank you for this, nate. the hypocrisy, self-centeredness & willful obliviousness of the many libs i know has started to grate. in the meantime, who alleviates the suffering in palestine?
The Labour's right's (Stamer's et al.) incredibly cynical purging of Corbyn and Momentum from the party demonstrated how they will always choosing maintaining the worst, most grotesque excesses of the neoliberal capitalist status quo to giving even an inch to socialism.
The west died in Gaza. The ruling class are deaf, dumb and blind to what they are doing to themselves, as they conduct mass slaughter to please their donors.
In my view, America has become more and more isolated since the beginning of the "unipolar moment" following the collapse of Soviet/Eastern Block Communism.
During the Nineties, legistation was green-lighted by the Clinton administration that allowed six giant media companies to swallow the entire media landscape in America, gutting the antitrust laws that previously prevented the telecom industry from becoming hypermonopolized, as it is today.
One of the first things that happened was the closure of all the foreign news bureaus, which were essential in informing the public about what goes on across the world. America today is like a mirrored fishbowl, into which the rest of the world sees, but no one can see out of.
What the rulers did not count on is what they never count on: They never figure what the kids are going to do. The young can and do see what is going on in Gaza, Yemen, and the rest of Occupied Palestine.
The college students who are being persecuted, cancelled, expelled and deported will never forget the way the Establishment has gone rogue in order to brutalize those whose only crimes are conscience, courage and integrity. These are foundational and formational life experience that will inform the way they look at everything in life, and they will never forget.
I am old enough to remember how the shooting of unarmed protesters at Kent State University galvanized the entire generation, college students and non students, pro-war, anti-war, fence sitters and the uninterested were offered a lesson in exactly where they stood.
From that moment on, it was young verses old. It wasn't an ideological struggle, it was generational conflict.
I recall a moment of childhood joy. My parents gave me my first bicycle. It was my fourth birthday. I declared that this was my best birthday ever! My parents beamed.
What I did not know until later in life was that both of my grandfathers were alcoholics. My fourth birthday was the fourth birthday my parents never experienced. But they remarkably did not lose their capacity for love nor their determination for me to have a happy childhood.
The slaughter of children is reprehensible. The photo of that child cut in half by a demonic act is one that should be plastered in the halls of governance of every Western nation. Yes, Trump is the free fall of moral depravity, but the tracks on the slippery slope to hell were greased by the "lesser evils" that preceded him.
These deeds must be punished. Leaders that condone these acts must be removed and shunned.
What forces could “fight” for “utopian futures”? They don’t exist- they are a chimera. No one person, and not even one institution, has even the beginnings of a track record of regulating national and trans-national corporate or state-corporate powers.
Another great piece of writing! It made me think that the only choice between the 2 political parties in the U.S. seems to be whether we die slowly under the current neoliberal Democrats or quickly under the Trumpublicans. One of the big things I wish people would realize is that Trump didn’t create these problems in the U.S. he’s just exploiting them for personal gain. In the 1930’s the Nazis actually studied the U.S. to figure out the best way to use the law to racially discriminate against people.
No sleep til utopian futures! It’s literally all or nothing at this point.

"We must have utopian futures or we will have no futures at all."
Sounds like a recommendation to dream on?

And those who had decent agendas but capitulate, such as Angela Rayner, end up achieving nothing that originally motivated them to get into politics.
I’ll be sharing this far & wide, under posts about 50501
thank you so much for this article, nate. i'll be sharing this article far and wide. both democrats and republicans are fascists.

the slaughter of children is indefensible. shame on israel for doing this, shame on the west for condoning this.
