Bang on man. Everything here needed to be said, but the Goldberg story in particular riles me. You're gifted such a rare opportunity and instead of asking why and possibly doing something huge with it you just opt for yet another "Trump's people are dumb and sketchy" piece that'll be forgotten next week.
You've hit the nail on the head with this article. To me, liberalism perpetuates the status quo with a smiling face. I don't feel like liberals are bad people, per se, but they seem to have faith in the status quo, and capitalistic institutions/systems which are failing us all.
An article in The NY Times a couple of weeks ago and one in Vox last week both quietly acknowledged that COVID is a gain of function virus. And yet they showed no intellectual curiosity in March 2020 when scientists announced that the science was settled and the virus had evolved from an animal at the Wuhan market despite many other scientists expressing significant doubt. Instead they went with the narrative and ostracized anyone questioning that finding as racist. I’m old enough to remember when the media tried to present all sides of an issue with historical context. The goal was to report what happened, not what to think about what happened. There was integrity and pride in the importance of getting the story correct. Now it’s all about winning points for their particular side. It’s actually very sad.
The article in the New York Times did no such thing. It simply argued that the lab in Wuhan was only BSL2, insufficient for such research, and therefore could have been the source of a leak. It offered no evidence that it actually was the source and there is plenty of countervailing evidence for zoonotic transfer at the Wuhan market. Reputable virologists have made the case that the virus show no evidence of being the result of lab manipulation. The distraction of the lab leak theory means insufficient focus on China's real culpability for Covid - allowing the return of the trafficking, farming and sale of wild animals and the tardy and secretive response of Wuhan health authorities. I wouldn't be surprised if China is secretly delighted with the obsession with a leak.
In the early ‘70s I worked as a library assistant in a newspaper library that collected newspaper output from as many sources as we could access, and was owned by the publishers of The Australian (national broadsheet) and Truth (tabloid). I was 18, hardly knew anything! but was so lucky that the librarian taught us to look critically at the ‘news’ from any source along the political spectrum, pointing out any discrepancies between what was being reported and what was actually happening, and teaching us to keep on asking critical-thinking questions. This was reinforced when the journos writing for The Australian would repeatedly come in upset at how their well-researched stories were “butchered” by their editors, showing us their original copy, which we then compared to the articles we were filing. Overt editorial lying, or omissions, just wow, happening now for decades, but certainly not confined to that media corporation stable. Since that time I’ve had to ask whose interests journalistic output serves, and nowadays feel so lucky to have had that early training, and I’m now lucky again to have access to independent, ‘with-a-heart’ analysis such as yours and others I read. I could never feel superior to have had that luck, but it makes me sad to know that lying and propaganda, in all its guises, works so well and hurts so many of us because it then leads to damaging beliefs, policy and practices that continue that hurt. I have been especially grateful for you and others exposing the harms and social murder of this pandemic, and climate ruptures, as well as the genocides of the last several and many years, and sadly acknowledge that is how Australia and other nation states were founded and maintain themselves, and is what they choose to participate in, as if harm and murder and genocides were some sort of fucking legitimate thing to do!
I also appreciate you talking about the SARS-CoV-2 virus injuring people right down to the cellular level, and how the public framing of the handling of the pandemic has been politicised to effectively obscure the cellular damage that this particular virus does to people, whether or not they ‘believe’ in it, as if it was somehow in the realm of fairies and unicorns. This framing has been so effective that, even though I have comprehensive medical training, and had been able to explain bodies and pathologies in understandable terms before, not one person in my family or networks has asked me about the virus and its effects on the body from a medical or scientific understanding. I know it’s been a hard slog for us all (and far worse for those of us who have died and had their lives cut short, who have had their loved ones die, or who are still suffering from acute or chronic infection effects and disability), and why people might not want to know, or practice protective behaviours, but I was surprised by how far-reaching and deep the effectiveness of that framing is, even though I probably shouldn’t have been.
Your problem is the term "liberal media". There is no such thing. All mainstream media is on the right side of the divide. Anybody who was fooled should have realized this after the US election when every so-called media outlet postrated themselves before the golden heifer that is Trump.
Not really disagreeing too much, though the “false equivalency” trap is poking its head up. There is not the slightest both-sideism to Fox News, OAN - whatever is biased and wrong and pro-corporate about the other side of NYT, Guardian, B B C, NPR, they are oceans better on many, many issues.
In this Information Age, literate people can get worthy tidbits from lots of places without imbibing the whole. I’m not so sure a diet of Grayzone & WSWJ wouldn’t result in similar mental cramping.
I was alive when the "Pentagon Papers" were published in the "New York Times" and "The Washington Post" dived into the break in of the Democratic Campaign headquarters at the Watergate complex in D.C. Both papers also devoted extensive coverage to the same operatives breaking into Daniel Ellsberg's psychiatrist's office. (Daniel was the collator of the "Pentagon Papers" and one of its authors.) These papers published factual stories that led to the resignation of Richard M Nixon, the President of the United States.
Silly me, I did not expect that journalistic integrity coupled with investigative journalism to be a quaint artifact of my relative youth.
So what happened? It's the publishers that changed. They lost their stomach for battling fellow members of their class. So the priority of newspapers changed from holding powerful people accountable to providing entertainment written at a higher level than a supermarket tabloid. Too, the focus changed from policy to piety. Take for example, our climate: pages and pages bemoaning sea level rise and increasing atmospheric carbon, but not a word that the root cause is corporate capitalism. These publishers and their craven editors are not going to take a piss on their elite university chums.
So we, the great unwashed miraculously still have some independent journalists that possess integrity and courage to speak out like our Nate Bear. It is of paramount importance that we disseminate his work to our friends, family and colleagues. And I implore those with some spare change to purchase a subscription or buy him some coffee.
I had a friend. His Son is my Godson, a child who due to a rare heart condition is lucky to be alive and despite all odds, underwent a successful surgery to fix his malformed little heart. This was over a year ago. Even then, there was no right time for me to explain to my friend, who works for Facebook at a high level, that his boss is a former member of Unit 8200. But I did. We, are no longer friends.
What confuses me Nate, is your own apparent confusion. Not unlike my friend, so caught up in his own strife (which was not really his, but his Sons), he was fully distracted by the injustice of a child who might suffer, yet on the other, blind to the reality.
There are literally thousands of studies into covid from research schools in almost every country in the world. I follow the evidence on everything. What confuses me is people like you who pick and choose https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/research/coronavirus/
I stick to what I know. I know that the systematic destruction of a native people, the murder of their children on an industrial scale, still ongoing, is very real and very wrong. I know that a thing called "SARS-CoV-2" was registered for funding by a US Research Lab in Ukraine, years before it's apparent origin in food market in Wuhan.
I know that a jew and ardent supporter of the illegitimate and genocidal state known as "israel", a man named Nathan Wolfe - founder of Biden’s Metabiota, WEF member, DoD employee, sat on the board of Peter Daszak’s EcoHealth Alliance involved in Wuhan, funded by DARPA, Gates Foundation, funded Ghislaine Maxwell’s TerraMar project with the Clintons, member of The Edge Foundation collecting microbes and housing animal viruses all over the world, stands accused by Russian investigators as being the key player in the creation of SARS-CoV-2 from a bat coronavirus he discovered in Ukraine.
I know that the majority of leading members of the CDC hold dual-citizenship with the genocidal entity. I know that every single person I know, including family members who took the jab, on the stringent advice of Bill Gates et. al. consequently acquired the so-called COVID virus. I know that I have not.
I know that more academic research papers and journal articles have since been retracted during COVID pandemic, than any other time in history. I know that Science is never settled. I know that I am not a virologist, no more than Bill Gates is. Or you are.
Until Palestine is Free, none of us are free. On these matters, I am not confused. Not one bit.
Agree with you on that last part I just don't understand the aversion to believing all the evidence that a new virus exists in the world and that's bad. It's a very odd tendency of the anti imperialists to be in denial about covid
I agree with you on most everything you write, particularly regarding the plight of the Palestinians and the reality we face, which is one of denial and therefor, complicity. I believe it is a very odd tendency of the masses, their tacit compliance with getting jabbed with an experimental mRNA "vaccine" for example, manufactured and distributed by the self same perpetrators of an ongoing Genocide. There is a difference between aversion and attention. There is a difference between denial and discernment. The dots are so large, they are wholly intersecting. You do not even need to join them.
With due respect, isolate (without the use of non-human cells), and we can talk about the alleged virus. I do not deny the existence of a toxic spike protein, or its effects on the immune and vascular systems, no more than the evidence which shows that an mRNA "vaccine" which triggers said spike proteins and their production in human cells.
Jeffery Goldberg then published what he had kept, which totally demolished the Trump machine's lies and accusations. There was plenty of information that was classified and highly embarrassing in that text stream. Those idiots could have gotten multiple airmen killed by their collective stupidity.

If those airmen got killed they wouldn't have been able to bomb children. Whose side are you on?
I have always appreciated your commentary on Covid, but I now realize that I can no longer follow you. Have a good life.
