Several mental health conditions are risk factors in both acute SARS2 infection and in long-c0v*d. I wonder if the immune response proteins identified in the Bristol research could lead to, say, immune over-activation or other mechanism that might play a role in LC.

Thanks for your work.

Given what we know about epigenetics one must wonder if environmental factors might be involved in the the expression of the proteins that allegedly cause various forms of mental illness.

The worldwide economic and political systems are so toxic to healthy human life that it is a wonder any of us are able to cope at all.

Thanks, Nate, for the updates on these important issues and your cri de coeur for a Leftist resurgence! It’s heartening and appreciated by me and other likeminded subscribers, especially in face of recent reactionary gains across the globe. We mustn’t get discouraged!

The New York Times buried that story on page 10 in the print edition, and I (and probably many others) missed it on their website. Thank you for writing about it.

I think anyone who sees themselves as """properly""" left (ie, not just a labour party voter or adjacent) should distance themselves from corbyn at this point. Although his manifesto was promising at the time it was only in the context of ongoing austerity, it wasn't really radical at all. And as a politician we can see he has zero aptitude for leadership or media. Anyone who thinks he ever was radical needs to ask themselves why he stayed in the Labour party for decades when it was clear the party was drifting further and further right, and why he still basically wants to be part of Labour now. I don't necessarily think he's a plant, but many of his actions are basically indistinguishable from one.

Re the 'British Left' - I see a lot of people identifying themselves as 'left' who have completely different ideas on various subjects. Workers Party GB for e.g seem to claim to be socialist. Also, I don't know that a JC initiative (Peace & Justice project already exists after all) would work.

Then of course there's the various SCG (Socialist Campaign Group) MPs who just carried on within the Labour Party despite the direction of travel being so obvious.

The time for a new party was 2020 (Some (like me) might even say 2003 would've been the time to act.

Someone has to try something. I think a Corbyn backed/led party would drag people to it. The other option is just to drift towards Nigel Farage as PM, which is probably what will happen

Someone must. Question is - which someone? We're all doing a Bonnie Tyler aren't we?

As for JC - we all saw what happened last time. We all see there's no support from people who allegedly matter. We need a hero and no one wants to be one. We're successfully f'd.
