The execution of Alex Pretti, shot ten times in Minneapolis by a Border Patrol agent while on his knees, came just weeks after an ICE agent murdered Renee Good in the same city and just one day after US security forces extrajudicially executed two men in the Eastern Pacific.
Fantastic article packed full of inconvenient truths that too many US citizens and people across the world would rather not know about.
There are several things in this, and pretty much all your articles, that I was unaware about. I continuing to learn from your excellent articles. I appreciate your efforts.
As Obamaโs AG said in 2013, regarding drone strikes that kill US citizens: โIt is clear and logical that United States citizenship alone does not make such individuals immune from being targeted.โ
I think your critique of the Imperial Boomerang is dead on! I live in Southern Minnesota where violence as a tool of the U.S. government isnโt new and has never stopped. Specifically the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862 when settler colonial Minnesotanโs forcibly removed the Dakota from their land with clear genocidal motivations. The state government created a concentration camp of non-combatant Dakotas at Fort Snelling in St. Paul who were mostly women, children, and the elderly. Hundreds died that winter of disease and the cold. After the war there were trials which lead to the largest mass hanging in American History of 38 Dakota men. They even had to build a special gallows just to enable this grotesque spectacle to happen simultaneously. The parallels to what the Israelis/US are doing in Gaza is undeniable.
I agree with the totality that was written. Obama, was mealy mouthed, he could have called it murder, which is what it was โ but no surprise he did not. This was the man, whose actions/lack thereof directly facilitated the rise of tRump.
The USA is an empire & acts in an imperial manner. I am reading โGreek & Roman Political Ideasโ by Melissa Lane (superb) the section on Socrates and Plato also deal with imperialism โ by Athens, which was a direct cause of its eventual demise. Will the same happen to the USA? I donโt know. But its foundations are, at best, hideous, built as they are on genocide slavery and lies. There is a reason for lots of emigration to the USA, because the USA through its actions makes it so shit to live in central & south America (& letโs not forget all that cocaine which destroys societies where it is grown โ is mostly due to demand pull by โniceโ middle class people in the USA).
My partner worked as a volunteer in a school in Nicaragua for 18 months, she saw first hand the poor standards of living and the lure of Yankee land. If the USA wants fewer immigrants, it could help central and South American countries develop their economies โ rather than focus on extraction. Nahโฆ. Letโs do extraction โ easier.
It's been a busy morning for me. First up was a Reddit thread concerning whether Canadians would welcome any breakaway US states into their federation. No. Guns were subject to universal Canadian condemnation. The list of objections to our being went on and on ...
Next up was "Sacred Rage" by "Biocentric with Max Wilbert":
So this fine piece is my morning trilogy, for more than one sense of morning.
It is boggling how we are not taking to the streets. On top of all the cruelty that the US dishes out we all are subject to denial of health care and medical bankruptcy.
So as Wilbert's friend said, "It was always going to come to this." Because as Nate Bear accurately details, it has always been like this.
Not to mention, violence to black people, even on my own block this very year. But Yeah! Heavy truths to reckon with. Thank you, for speaking this truth.
let's not forget the context of the underlying MINNESOTA PIPELINES that have been buried under bodies in the ultimate spin of this ongoing assault. the indigenous, diverse and immigrant communities there are a target for a reason and the residents have long known what they are up against

Thanks very much indeed Xx
Thank you Sangeeta, so good to hear!
Obama posted that on BlueSky too. I told him to go fuck himself ๐

Excellent article. Pretti was killed by Border Patrol, not ICE. Both part of DHS.
Ah will correct thanks

So glad I read your articles - sane and lucid as ever.

I wish humans would stop talking about "bravery" or "cowardice".
You get no points for being brave. What matters is winning. In fact, that is all that matters.
